Kistler, Medinger Score as Scots Win at Knox

The Monmouth College women's soccer team scored in both halves and won on the road at Knox 2-1 on Wednesday night. The Fighting Scots (6-3-2, 2-0-1) are one of two teams in the Midwest Conference without a loss after three conference games.

"I asked our players at halftime to give 100 percent commitment on 50/50 balls and individual battles which is something we fell short on in the first half," said head coach Lucas Henderson. "I couldn't be more proud of how they responded. Sometimes you just have to find a way in a hostile environment and that's what we did tonight."

Knox scored just three minutes into the game after winning a corner. Just over 10 minutes later the Scots got even through freshman Morgan Kistler (Kokomo, Indiana). Both Allison Griffin (Geneseo, Illinois) and Mariah Hobson (Princeton, Illinois) picked up assists on the equalizer.

The game stayed tied into halftime. Just three minutes into the second half, Hobson drew a foul and won a penalty after flicking the ball to herself with a creative turn around the defender. Hobson was dragged down and Kiersten Medinger (Silvis, Illinois) stepped up and buried the spot kick into the corner for a 2-1 lead. Goalkeeper Izzy Seipold (Peoria, Illinois) made four saves in the second half to  preserve the win.

MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Kistler leads the Scots with nine goals on the season…Medinger has four goals, two on penalty kicks…Hobson and Griffin both have two assists this season…Seipold, Avery Parks (Bloomington, Indiana), Jackie Contreras (Peoria, Illinois) and Ali Barnum (Pekin, Illinois) played all 90 minutes…The last time the Scots started MWC play with at least three straight games unbeaten was 2013 when they won their first five conference games…Monmouth leads the all-time series 20-15-1 with three straight wins…The next home game is at 11 a.m. on Saturday against Lawrence.
