The Monmouth College men's soccer team couldn't recover from an early goal and lost 1-0 to Illinois College on Wednesday. The Fighting Scots (3-6-3, 0-4-1) will play the next two games on the road before hosting Lake Forest on Nov. 1.
Just over three minutes into the game the Blueboys took the lead with a goal off a shot in the box. The Scots responded immediately but a shot by
Owen Murray (Cedar City, Utah) went wide and
Parker Davis (Burlington, Iowa) had his shot saved.
Luis Villa (El Paso, Texas) made two saves for the Scots before halftime.
Villa made two more saves early in the second half and Davis was again denied on a keeper save. Murray got free on a breakaway but was hauled down outside the box by the IC goalkeeper, who got a yellow card. The Scots hit the ensuing free kick off the wall before
Omar Portillo (El Paso, Texas) had a shot saved. With just under four minutes to play, the Scots had a great chance but
Isai Barajas (El Paso, Texas) had his shot saved out of bounds for a corner kick. Monmouth couldn't get the ball on target off the corner and IC held on for the victory.
