The Monmouth College women's tennis team played their final Midwest Conference dual matches on Saturday with 4-3 losses to Ripon and Lawrence.
Ivana Stefanova (Streamwood, Illinois) went a perfect 4-0 on the day as she and
Natalie Labicki (Antioch, Illinois) both crossed the 50-win plateau for their careers. Freshman
Tiah Riggs (Vincennes, Indiana) also won both her singles matches.
"We knew going into the weekend we would have two competitive matches," said head coach
Brian Dahlstrom. "Ivana and Tiah took care of business in their singles matches. Both meets came down to a final singles match and unfortunately we couldn't get either of them."
Against Ripon in the morning match Stefanova and Labicki won 6-0 at No. 1 doubles but the other two doubles pairs lost, giving the Red Hawks the point.
Kimber Calvert (Paris, Illinois) and
Natalie Holst (East Moline, Illinois) lost 6-2 at No. 2 and
Alayna McKinley (Rock Island, Illinois) and Riggs fell 6-2 at No. 3l.
Stefanova won 6-2, 6-0 at No, 1 singles, Labicki won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 and Riggs won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6. Ripon took the other three matches to get the 4-3 win. Calvert lost 6-2, 6-1, Holst fell 6-4, 6-3 and McKinley lost 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 at 3-4-5 singles.
Vs. Lawrence
In the afternoon match, Stefanova and Labicki won at No. 1 doubles, 6-1 but Lawrence took the doubles point with a 6-1 win at No. 2 and a 6-0 win at No. 3. Stefanova and Labicki went 4-2 in MWC doubles action this season.
Stefanova won 6-4, 6-2 at No, 1 singles, Holst won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4 and Riggs won at No. 6, 6-0, 6-3. The deciding match this time came at No. 2 where a first set tiebreak went Lawrence's way in a 7-6 (5), 6-4 win against Labicki. Calvert lost 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3 and McKinley lost 6-1, 6-0 at No, 5.
MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Stefanova is tied with Sara Yerks for the 5th most doubles wins in Monmouth history with 25…She has 26 singles wins and 51 combined wins…Labicki has 50 combined wins with 29 in doubles and 21 in singles…They are the 5th and 6th players in Monmouth history to get to 50 combined wins and fourth place has 53…Riggs has four singles wins this year, three in conference...Stefanova went 4-2 at No. 1 singles in MWC dual meets…The Scots are done with fall dual meets…Next up is the Midwest Conference Individual Tournament in Madison, Wisconsin next weekend.
