The Monmouth College men's soccer team dropped their first MWC road game of the season with a 1-0 loss at Grinnell on Wednesday. The Fighting Scots (3-4-2, 0-2)
Luis Villa (El Paso, Texas) made a save against the Pioneers in the seventh minute and both teams had corner kicks in the first half hour.
Aimilios Ioannou (Lanarca, Cyprus) and
Parker Davis (Burlington, Iowa) hit shots wide for the Scots and Villa made two saves in a row.
Bryan Corona (El Paso, Texas) had a shot saved in the 36th minute and the game was scoreless at halftime.
Villa made a save to start the second half and
Owen Murray (Cedar City, Utah) had his shot saved in the 54th minute. The Pioneers went on top 1-0 with a goal in the 58th minute. The Scots were called for a penalty kick in the 69th minute but Villa stepped up and saved the PK to keep the score 1-0. Ioannou had a shot blocked in the 79th minute and had a shot saved in the final seconds as Grinnell preserved the win

Treyton Yi (Streamwood, Illinois) played all 90 minutes…Ioannou led the team with four shots while he, Corona and Murray had shots on goal…Shots on goal were 6-3 in favor of Grinnell…Monmouth is 11-49-1 all-time against Grinnell with a 1-0 home win last year…The Scots are at Knox on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. kickoff…The next home game is Saturday, Oct. 11 against Lawrence.
