Box Score The Monmouth College men's lacrosse team got a career-high six goals from
Michael Casey (Chicago, Illinois) but they lost 13-11 at Clarke University on Wednesday.
Monmouth scored the first goal of the game in just 48 seconds as
Kai Johnson (Sun Prairie, Wisconsin) scored on an assist from Casey. After Clarke tied the game, Carlos Hernandez (Billings, Montana) scored on an assist from Johnson with 4:15 to go in the first quarter.
Clarke scored four of the five goals in the second quarter to lead 5-3 at halftime. Monmouth's lone goal int he quarter came from Casey on an assist from Hernandez at the 9:55 mar.
Down 6-3, Casey scored on an assist from
Ben LaFrenere (Schaumburg, Illinois) early in the third. Casey scored again four minutes later and Hernandez scored to cut the Clarke lead to 7-6. LaFrenere tied the game at 7-7 and Casey scored his third goal of the quarter to tie the game 8-8 with 2:05 to play.
Casey scored the first goal of the fourth quarter for a 9-8 Monmouth lead just 27 seconds into the fourth. Clarke tied the game and Casey scored again for a 10-9 lead. Clarke tied the game with 10:25 to gp and took the lead with 7:40 to play. They scored two more goals to go on top 13-10 before
LH Bond (Fishers, Indiana) scored the final goal of the game with 1:04 left.
Casey led the Scots with six goals and 11 shots on goal while Hernandez scored twice and added three assists. Johnson and LaFrenere both had one goal to go with two assists. Dominic Knazur (Sugar Grove, Illinois) led the Scots with 12 ground balls and
Gavin Conway (Steeleville, Illinois) had two caused turnovers. Goalkeeper
Nehemiah Declaw (Aurora, Colorado) had 12 saves.
The Scots are next in action on Thursday, March 30 with a 7 p.m. game at Augustana. That game was postponed from March 15.
