The Monmouth College men's lacrosse team returned to Wisconsin for the second straight Saturday and fell to Edgewood College 24-16.
Kain Donohoo (St. Charles, Illinois) scored six goals for the Scots, all in the first half. Monmouth took the lead on a goal by
Gordon Kiesgen (Spring Grove, Illinois) and led 5-3 after a pair of Donohoo goals. Donohoo's third goal put the Scots up 6-4 after the first quarter.
He scored three goals in the second quarter and the Scots got goals from
Michael Casey (Chicago, Illinois) and Carlos Hernandez (Billings, Montana) to lead 11-9. But Edgewood scored the final two goals of the half to tie the game at 11. Edgewood took control of the game with all eight goals in the third quarter and their run went to 13 straight goals as they took a 22-11 lead with 8:25 to play in the game.
Hernandez ended the run and the Scots scored three straight as
Salvador Alvarado (Oak Lawn, Illinois) and Casey also scored. Hernandez and Casey both scored again as Monmouth cut the lead to 22-16 with 4:55 to play but Edgewood scored the final two games to win 24-16.
Donohoo led the Scots with six goals while Hernandez had four and Casey scored three.
Ben LaFrenere (Schaumburg, Illinois) led the Scots with three assists and also added a goal. Kiesgen won 28-of-38 faceoffs and led the Scots with 11 ground balls. The Scots are next in action on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. game at Augustana.
