Baseball Drops Final Game of Florida Trip

The Monmouth College baseball team dropped the final game of their Florida trip 12-1 to Penn State-Behrend on Friday morning. 

Tim McNally (Paw Paw, Illinois) got the start for the Scots, his second of the trip. The Lions loaded the bases with a single, hit batter and single. Another hit made it 2-0 and the Lions added two more on a throwing error. A wild pitch gave the Lions a 5-0 lead and they added another run with a single and triple.. Two more came home on a pair of hits before a home run gave the Lions a 10-0 lead. 

The Scots got on the board in the third. Logan Komater (Ottawa, Illinois) reached on a throwing error with one out and Daniel Lummus (New Port Richey, Florida) singled to left. Raul Guillermo III (Miami, Florida) singled to load the bases and Komater scored on a RBI groundout by Jack Kuethe (Pekin, Illinois). 

Cade Sharp (Aledo, Illinois) gave up one run on three hits over three innings while striking out four. The Lions led 11-1 when lefty Toby Turnquist (Monmouth, Illinois) took the mound for his Scots pitching debut. He walked one and allowed a single but struck out three in the fifth inning. 

Riley Jennings (Knoxville, Illinois) threw a scoreless inning before the Lions added an unearned run against Carson Mohler (Temple Terrace, Florida) in the seventh. Jakob Brokaw (Andalusia, Illinois) threw a scoreless eighth inning with one walk and two strikeouts. 

MONMOUTH MOMENTS: For the trip, Guillermo led the Scots with 13 hits Melvin and Komater both had 11 hits…Christian Centeno (Miami, Florida) and Komater led the team with seven runs scored …Lummus, Todd Fowler (Chatham, Illinois) and Nathan Reed (Chenoa, Illinois) all had two doubles while both Reed and Reid Stuffelbeem (Galesburg, Illinois) hit home runs…Kuethe drew eight walks, one more than Fowler…Komater was 5-for-5 stealing bases on the trip…Monmouth hit .291 as a team on the trip, led by Guillermo at .433….The Scots used 13 pitchers for a combined 4.41 ERA with Addison Fletcher (Monmouth, Illinois) going 2-0 with a team-high 16 strikeouts and Jeff Garrett (Aledo, Illinois) was 1-0 with a team-high 14 innings…On the trip, 10 players made their Monmouth College debuts…The Scots will be in action next Friday with a 4 p.m. game at Augustana College. They will play two games at Augustana on Saturday, March 18 with a 10:30 a.m. game against Buena Vista, followed by a game against Dominican University.
