Box Score 2 The Monmouth College men's tennis team ended their regular season with a pair of losses at Grinnell and Cornell on Saturday. The Scots lost the MWC matches 9-0 and finished the year 1-5 in conference play.
In the morning match against Grinnell, who has won 169 consecutive MWC matches, the Scots won one-game in the match.
Kyle Martin (Galesburg, Illinois) grabbed a game at No. 6 singles.
In the second match of the day at Cornell, the Scots lost two doubles matches 8-6.
Sawyer Day (Cupertino, California) and
Andre Myklebust (Cambridge, Wisconsin) lost 8-6 at No. 2 doubles and
Matthew Simonson (Monmouth, Illinois) and Martin lost 8-6 at No. 3 doubles.
Andrew Shie (Davenport, Iowa) lost at No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-3 and
Brendan Guenther (Pekin, Illinois) fell 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Day (6-1, 6-1), Myklebust (6-0, 6-4), Simonson (6-1, 6-4) and Martin (6-2, 6-1) all fell in singles matches.
The Scots will head to the Hitters Sports Plex in Middleton, Wisconsin next weekend for the MWC Championships. The singles tournament will take place on Saturday with the double tournamen ton Sunday. Matches start at 8 a.m. both days.
