Box Score The Monmouth College men's tennis team played their first Spring Break match on Sunday, falling to King's College 6-3. The teams met at the USTA National Campus in Orlando and the Scots will play three more matches on the trip.
Andrew Shie (Davenport, Iowa) and
Brendan Guenther (Pekin, Illinois) combined to win at No. 1 doubles, 8-4. That was the lone doubles win for the Scots with a tough 8-6 loss at No. 2 doubles by
Sawyer Day (Cupertino, California) and
Andre Myklebust (Cambridge, Wisconsin)..
Shie won at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 7-6 (5) and Guenther also won his singles match 7-5, 7-5 at No. 2. But the Monarches took the other four singles matches,
Matthew Simonson (Monmouth, Illinois) had a hard-fought match at No. 5 singles, losing both sets in tiebreakers. Myklebust also dropped a set in a tiebreak. Every singles match was close with Day losing 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3 and
Nicholas Robertson (Covington, Georgia) losing 7-5, 6-4 at No. 6.
The Scots will play again on Tuesday morning. The match against St. John's (MN) University will be at Lake Eva.
