The Monmouth College baseball team gave up a few late runs and lost the series finale to the Ripon Red Hawks 10-4 on Monday afternoon. The Scots never led in the game as Ripon swept the three game Midwest Conference series.

The Red Hawks got on the board against Monmouth starter Cade Sharp (Aledo, Illinois) in the second inning. Sam Ott doubled and with two outs he scored on a throwing error. A single from Cam Stampfil gave Ripon a 2-0 lead before the eventually left the bases loaded.

Monmouth got even in the third inning, without a hit. Christian Centeno (Miami, Florida) was hit by a pitch and Tyler Houck (Park Ridge, Illinois) reached on an error. Logan Komater (Ottawa, Illinois) laid down a sacrifice bunt and reached on an error as the Scots loaded the bases. Nate Melvin (Ottawa, Illinois) was hit by a pitch to score Centeno and Justin Bost (Reynolds, Illinois) walked to score Houck. With the game tied and the bases loaded, Ripon changed pitches. Brock Turkington came in and struck out the next three batters to end the inning.

Ripon regained the lead in the fifth. An infield single, a single to left and a hit batter loaded the bases with one out. Ott singled up the middle to plate two runs for a 4-2 Ripon lead. Another single added to the lead before Sharp got out of the frame with the bases loaded.

Monmouth got one back in the fifth. Komater walked and moved to second on a ground out. Boat singled to put runners on the corners and Komater scored on a single by Jack Kuethe (Pekin, Illinois), Kuethe fouled off six straight pitches and singled to center on the 11th pitch of the at-bat. Ripon changed pitchers and a line drive double play ended the inning.

RIpon answered against reliever Nathan WIllig (Oswego, Illinois) in the sixth. A leadoff walk came around to score after a sacrifice bunt and a single. They added three more in the eighth inning with a walk, RBI double and two-run homer to take a 9-3 lead.

Both teams scored in the ninth inning, Ripon's run was unearned against Nate Kordzinski (Naperville, Illinois). The Scots got one back in the bottom of the ninth. Centeno singled,  and moved to third as Melvin singled. When Melvin stole second, the throw went into center field and Centeno scored. Ripon ended the game with a strikeout to win 10-4.
