The Monmouth College men's tennis team dropped the 2022 season opener 9-0 to Central College on Saturday at the Hawkeye Center in Iowa City.
At No. 1 singles,
Andrew Shie (Davenport, Iowa) lost 6-2, 6-4. The No. 2 and No. 3 singles matches both went 6-1, 6-1 as
Brendan Guenther (Pekin, Illinois) played No. 2 and freshman
Sawyer Day (Cupertino, California) played at No. 3. The other three singles matches all went 6-0, 6-0 for Central.
Shie and Guenther teamed at No. 1 doubles and lost 8-4. Day teamed with fellow freshman
Andre Myklebust (Cambridge, Wisconsin) at No. 2 doubles with an 8-1 loss.
Matthew Simonson (Monmouth, Illinois) and Nick Robertson (Covington, Georgia) lost 8-0 at No. 3 doubles.
The Scots will next be in action on Sunday with an indoor road match against Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois.
