The Monmouth College men's lacrosse team fell in the Midwest Lacrosse Championship game 17-4 on Saturday afternoon in Minnesota. The loss ends the Scots season at 6-3 with all three losses coming to Northwestern Minnesota.
Monmouth fell behind 1:07 into the game and trailed 4-0 after the first quarter. The deficit grew to 10-0 by halftime and eventually went to 11-0 in favor of the Eagles.
Jeff Knapp (Nolensville, Tennessee) got the Scots on the board in a man-up situation with 11:18 to play in the third quarter. Down 12-1 Knapp scored again with 5:52 to go in the quarter.
Gordon Kiesgen (Spring Grove, Illinois) made it 12-3 just 13 seconds later and Knapp added a third goal with 5:18 to play in the quarter. The Scots netted three goals in 34 seconds to cut the deficit to 12-4.
However the Eagles scored the final four goals of the game to win 17-4 and clinch the MLC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
