The Monmouth College men's tennis team lost their first home match since 2019, 6-3 to Cornell College on Saturday. The loss drops the Fighting Scots to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in Midwest Conference action.

In doubles the No. 1 team of
Joseph Shie (Davenport, Illinois) and
Zach Harris (Mascoutah, Illinois) lost a hard-fought battle. They rallied to send the set to a tie break but ultimately lost 8-7 (7-5). At No. 2 doubles
Andrew Shie (Davenport, Illinois) and
Brendan Guenther (Pekin, Illinois) cruised to an 8-1 win. Cornell led doubles 2-1 after taking the No. 3 match 8-2 against
Adam Greer (Brimfield, Illinois) and Matt Simonson (Monmouth, Illinois).

In singles,
Joseph Shie improved to 4-1 on the season as he won at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-0. The Scots other win in singles came at No. 3 as Harris went the distance in a 6-1, 3-6, 10-1 win.

MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Seniors
Joseph Shie and Harris were honored between the doubles and singles matches as part of Senior Day…J. Shie is now 35-17 in his Monmouth singles career including a 12-1 mark since April 2019…His 11-match win streak in singles ended Saturday at Grinnell as the Scots lost 9-0…Harris is 26-21 in his singles career with the Scots…The team is next in action at 4 p.m. against Illinois College on Tuesday and they host Grinnell at Noon on Saturday.
