Box Score 2 In their 2021 debut, the Monmouth College men's tennis team lost a pair of matches on Saturday in Waverly, Iowa. In the first match they fall 6-3 to the University of Northwestern (Minnesota) 6-3 before dropping a 7-2 decision to host Wartburg.
Brothers
Joseph Shie (Davenport, Iowa) and
Andrew Shie (Davenport, Iowa) both went 2-0 on the day in singles. Playing at the #1 singles position, Joseph won his first match 6-4, 6-0 against UNW. Against Wartburg he was pushed to a first-set tiebreak but prevailed 7-6 (12-10), 6-3. Andrew won 6-4, 6-1 against UNW and 6-0, 6-3 against Wartburg.
Playing in the #3 spot
Zach Harris (Mascoutah, Illinois) fell 6-1, 7-5 against UNW and 7-5, 6-0.
Brandon Guenther (Pekin, Illinois) won a set in the #4 spot against Wartburg but ultimately fell 3-6, 7-6 (6-0), 1-0 (7-0). The Scots didn't win any sets in the 5-6 singles spots in either match
Joseph Shie teamed with Harris in doubles and the pair won against UNW 8-6, the lone doubles win of the day for the Scots.

MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Joseph Shie has won 10-straight singles matches dating back to 2019…The run ties his personal best as he also won 10 straight singles matches from March 5 – April 21, 2018…The streak is tied for the fourth longest in Scots history and a win next time out will move him into a tie for third with Sam Graf (2011)…The overall record is 18 straight singles wins set by Matt Moser in 2006…The Scots don't play again until starting conference play at Illinois College in Jacksonville on Wednesday, April 14…The home opener is set for Sunday, April 18 against Cornell College.
