The Monmouth College women's basketball team dropped their final game of the calendar year on Thursday night with a 79-54 setback at Augustana. The Scots are now 8-3 on the season and they are scheduled to begin 2022 with a 1 p.m. contest at Webster on Saturday.
With the Scots down 5-0,
Josie Morgan (Washington, Illinois) scored the first basket of the night for the visitors. Augustana went on a 14-0 run and led 19-3 after
Lily Harlan (Washington, Illinois) made a free throw. By the end of the quarter the Vikings led 28-10 with Morgan netting seven of the Scots first 10 points.
Augustana pushed the lead to 40-10 and
Zoie Wall (Peoria, Illinois) made four straight free throws for Monmouth. Augustana pushed the lead to as high as 33 before
Kaitlyn Osmulski (Peoria, Illinois) made a 3-pointer for the final points of the half with the hosts leading 51-21.
Augustana started the third quarter with a 16-6 run to push the lead to 40 with 2:40 left in the period. Morgan scored five straight points and
Jadyn Mitchell (Flanagan, Illinois) made a basket for a 7-0 run before Augustana scored to lead 69-37 after three.
Osmulski scored Monmouth's first four points of the fourth quarter and
Jordan Kintigh (Goshen, Indiana) made four straight free throws. Monmouth cut the lead to 25 a couple different times and the score finished at 79-54 with freshman
Anna Caster (Greenfield, Indiana) scoring the final points with 39 seconds left.
Osmulski led the Scots with 16 points while Morgan scored 14 and Kintigh had eight. Wall led the team with nine rebounds and four steals while Morgan finished with three assists.
