Box Score The Monmouth College men's basketball team fell behind early and never caught up in a 94-68 loss to Eureka College Tuesday night. The loss drops the Scots to 0-6 on the season as they head into the Thanksgiving break and they will next be in action Tuesday, Nov. 30 at Lake Forest.
The Scots took the early lead as
Jonathan Oradiegwu (Richmond, Texas) returned to the lineup and scored the first basket of the game. He and
Jordan Metcalf (Aledo, Illinois) combined for the first eight Monmouth points as the hosts took a 12-8 lead.
Declan Flynn (Monmouth, Illinois) hit a 3-pointer and
Kendall Brasfield (Chicago, Illinois) made a layup to cut the Eureka lead to 20-17. From there the hosts went on an 11-3 run and kept adding to their advantage for a 44-27 halftime lead.
Eureka pushed the lead to 20 in the first four minutes of the second half. Monmouth cut the lead to 13 on a 3-point play by Oradiegwu with 11:40 left to play but Eureka quickly pushed the lead back to 20. They used a 13-4 run to go on top by 29 before
Brandon Wheeler (Memphis, Tennessee) scored the final three points of the game on a 3-point play with 1:09 to play.
Metcalf led the Scots with 19 points while Brasfield had 17 and Oradiegwu had 13. Metcalf posted his second straight double-double with 10 rebounds and
Amyas Njoku (Los Angeles, California) led the Scots with six assists.
Monmouth Moments: The Scots shot just 39 percent from the field while the Red Devils shot 61 percent...Monmouth was 3-of-16 (18.8%) from 3-point range...The Scots had 19 turnovers which led to 29 Eureka points...Monmouth out-rebounded Eureka 39-31 and had 18 offensive boards to just eight for the Red Devils...Eureka had 56 points in the paint...The Scots will play at Lake Forest in the Midwest Conference opener on Nov. 30 at 5:30 p.m. and then host Beloit at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4.
