Womens Soccer Draw, Men Lose Against Beloit

Women Host Cornell Tuesday

The Monmouth College women's soccer team drew 1-1 against Beloit College on Saturday while the men's team fell 3-0 to the Buccaneers. The double header at Peacock Park served as senior day for both teams as part of the Homecoming festivities.
 
The women's game was first, featuring the fourth and fifth place teams in the conference. The Scots began the day one point ahead of the Buccaneers and the teams played to a stalemate over the first 43 minutes as both teams had good chances to score. The Scots broke through in the 44th minute with a goal off a corner kick. Kaylee Doebert (Mount Horeb, Wisconsin) headed in the goal with an assist from Shelby Sims (Peoria, Illinois).

The game stayed 1-0 Scots into halftime and for the first 20 minutes of the second half. But in the 66th minute, Beloit tied the game on a goal from Abigail Membrino. Neither team was able to score the rest of the way, including 20 minutes of overtime.
 
Beloit outshot Monmouth 14-12 but the Scots had more shots on goal, 6-3. Lea Selquist (Peru, Illinois) made two saves for Monmouth. The Scots honored nine seniors pregame in their final home weekend game of the season. Monmouth hosts seventh-place Cornell at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday and play at third-place Lawrence next Saturday.
 
Men Fall 3-0 Against Beloit
 
On the men's side, the game was scoreless through the first half and into the second. Beloit broke through with a goal in the 55th minute and they added another on a penalty kick in the 68th minute. The Bucs put the game away with a goal in the 81st minute for a 3-0 lead.
 
Beloit outshot Monmouth 11-6 for the game and shots on goal were 6-3. Nico Esparon (St. Denis, France) had four of the Scots shots and keeper Marcos Garibay (Waukegan, Illinois) had two saves.
 
Monmouth honored their seniors pregame before the final home game of the season. The Scots play at Lawrence next Saturday in the final regular season game of the year.
