The Monmouth College women's soccer team went on the road in Midwest Conference play Tuesday night and grabbed a crucial 6-1 win over Illinois College. Madison Walker (Vernon Hills, Illinois) netted a hat trick and the win puts the Scots in a tie for third place in the MWC standings with a 3-2 record and nine points.
 
Walker (Vernon Hills, Illinois) got the Scots on the board just over a minute into the contest with an unassisted goal. With 5:23 gone in the first half Walker doubled the lead with her first collegiate multi-goal game. Senior Payton Gosell (Antioch, Illinois) picked up an assist on the second goal.
 
Illinois College cut the Scots lead to 2-1 at the 12:29 mark. With under 10 minutes to go in the half, Jaedyn Mitchell (Rockford, Illinois) restored the two-goal lead and Monmouth still led 3-1 at half.
 
Just 48 seconds into the second half, the Scots scored again. Shelby Sims (Peoria, Illinois) scored her first goal of the season on an assist from Kimberly Lopez (Kenosha, Wisconsin).
 
Walker completed her hat trick in the 64^th minute, the first this season for a Scots player. Erica Bossard (Pella, Iowa) gave the Scots a 6-1 lead with 14 minutes to play.
 
MONMOUTH MOMENTS: The Scots have won three games in a row, all on the road…They have scored 15 goals in those three games after scoring nine in their first 11 games of the season…Walker's hat trick is the first for a Scots player since Jacie Reis had one against Ripon on Nov. 2, 2019…She leads the Scots with five goals on the season…Payton Gosell and Lopez are tied for the team lead with two assists…Monmouth outshot IC 24-8 and shots on goal were 16-6….Lea Selquist (Peru, Illinois) made three saves in 61 minutes while Anna Caster (Greenfield, Indiana) made wo saves in 29 minutes…The Scots are next in action on Saturday against the team right behind them in the standings, Beloit College…Saturday is Senior Day with an 11 a.m. kickoff on Homecoming.
