The season's first meeting of the Midwest Conference coaches' picks to take the league crown went to St. Norbert when the Green Knights took a 66-44 decision over Monmouth Friday night at Glennie Gym.
 
The Scots, tabbed No. 2 in the MWC preseason poll, couldn't weather a cold shooting night, hitting 16 of their 45 shots from the floor against the Knights, picked No. 1 in the poll. Monmouth hit the first two buckets of the game and led 6-1 in the early going before St. Norbert began to heat up, eventually taking the lead for good with a bucket at the 13:38 mark of the first half.
 
Monmouth stayed close in the first half before St. Norbert ended the opening frame with a 7-0 run to lead 34-23 at the break. The Knights added to the lead early in the second half and kept the Scots at bay the rest of the way.
 
The Scots host Beloit Saturday at 1 p.m. at Glennie Gym.
