Monmouth moved to 3-1 in Midwest Conference play, sweeping Knox 10-1 and 18-3 Wednesday afternoon.
Â
The Scots used a nine-run second in Game 1 to back the two-hit pitching of
Cassidy Abbott. Monmouth scored from every position in the order but one in the second capped by
Allie Ramlo's three-run homer.
Â
A trio of six-run innings propelled Monmouth to the Game 2 win. After pounding out 10 hits in the opener, the Scots banged out 17 hits in the nightcap, collecting four straight hits to open the game. Playing small ball, the Scots methodically scored six runs in the bottom of the first and added six more in the third, half coming on
Savannah Ball's three-run double. Leading 12-3 in the fourth, the Scots piled on another six after sending 10 batters to the plate.
Hailey Rennick scattered seven hits and went the distance to pick up her second win of the season.
Â
The sweep moved the Scots into a tie for second in the league heading into a pair of MWC doubleheaders this weekend. Monmouth hosts Beloit Saturday and Ripon Sunday. Both doubleheaders are set for 1 p.m. starts.
