The hits were even, but Monmouth came up on the short end at Central where the Dutch got the upper hand on the scoreboard, downing the Scots 4-0 and 5-1 in Monmouth's first game in nine days.
 
Both teams collected 11 hits on the day, but a rash of Game 2 errors cost the Scots a chance at a split. The teams were knotted in a scoreless draw in Game 1 until Central drew three straight walks to open the bottom of the sixth and plated two with a base hit to right and added another on an infield hit. Both teams had opportunities in the first inning, but neither cashed in until the Dutch sixth.
 
The Scots were burned by another big inning in the nightcap when the Dutch sprung free for three runs in the fourth after Monmouth had knotted the game at 1-1 in the top of the frame. Laura Dulee's one-out single in the fourth scored Alexis Opel for the Scots' lone run of the day. Central took advantage in the fourth on three of Monmouth's four errors in the game to plate three unearned runs.
 
Monmouth travels back to Iowa Wednesday when they begin their final Midwest Conference drive of three doubleheaders by Sunday.
