SOFTBALL SLIPS INTO TIE FOR SECOND IN MWC WITH FOUR GAMES TO PLAY

For the first time since Game 3 of the Midwest Conference season, the Scots are not atop the league standings after Grinnell swept Monmouth 6-1, 2-1 Wednesday afternoon.

The Pioneers drilled a three-run homer as part of a four-run fifth in Game 1 to knock the Scots out of the top spot. Monmouth got a run back in the sixth when Lauren Sperry's sac fly brought home Laura Dulee, but that would be the only run the Scots could muster.

Monmouth jumped ahead early in Game 2 when Abby Tucker reached on a base hit in the first and came home with Dulee's single up the middle. Grinnell answered with a solo run in the bottom of the inning and added an unearned run in the third to pull into a tie with the Scots into a tie for second in the league at 10-4.

The Scots wrap up the conference season this weekend in Janesville, Wis., where they'll meet St. Norbert – currently No. 4 in the standings – Saturday and league-leader Lake Forest on Sunday.
