For the first time since Game 3 of the Midwest Conference season, the Scots are not atop the league standings after Grinnell swept Monmouth 6-1, 2-1 Wednesday afternoon.
Â
The Pioneers drilled a three-run homer as part of a four-run fifth in Game 1 to knock the Scots out of the top spot. Monmouth got a run back in the sixth when
Lauren Sperry's sac fly brought home
Laura Dulee, but that would be the only run the Scots could muster.
Â
Monmouth jumped ahead early in Game 2 when
Abby Tucker reached on a base hit in the first and came home with Dulee's single up the middle. Grinnell answered with a solo run in the bottom of the inning and added an unearned run in the third to pull into a tie with the Scots into a tie for second in the league at 10-4.
Â
The Scots wrap up the conference season this weekend in Janesville, Wis., where they'll meet St. Norbert – currently No. 4 in the standings – Saturday and league-leader Lake Forest on Sunday.
