Monmouth kept a firm grip on the top spot in the Midwest Conference with Saturday's 6-5, 5-1 sweep of Lawrence.
Â
Trailing 3-2 in the top of the fourth of Game 1, the Scots got production from the bottom of the order when leadoff hitter
Kaelan Bradley supplied a two-run triple with two outs.
Allie Ramlo's base hit followed to give the Scots a 5-4 lead.
Alison Trettin then drove in an insurance run with a solo homer in the seventh as
Jenna Pauley finished the game in the circle to earn the save and give
Cassidy Abbott the win.
Â
The Scots got a complete game in the nightcap from
Hailey Rennick who scattered nine hits and gave up just one run in the first inning. Tied at 1-1 in the third,
Jessica Pauley's double brought home
Abby Tucker for the only other run Rennick would need. The Scots added two insurance runs in the fifth and Ramlo slugged a solo shot in the seventh for good measure.
Â
At 10-2, the Scots lead second place St. Norbert by four games on the win side. Monmouth is scheduled to play at Lake Forest in a Sunday twinbill beginning at 2 p.m.
