Monmouth drew into a tie for the early lead with Grinnell in the Midwest Conference South Division after a split Monday with Knox at Glasgow Field, dropping Game 1, 3-1, but winning the finale 6-2.
Â
The Scots pushed two runs across in the fourth inning of Game 2 to take a 2-1 lead, but Knox knotted the game in the sixth with a solo run. Monmouth got the run back in their half of the sixth when
Sean Davis picked up his third hit of the game to score
Matt Temaner from second with the go-ahead run. The Scots added insurance runs in the seventh as
Harry Sanchez stroked a two-run single and came home on
Mike Dato's double.
Ryan Schulz picked up the win, working six innings striking out three and scattering six hits.
Â
Connor McDonald came up on the short end of a pitchers' duel in Game 1. Knox touched the starter for three runs in the third inning before McDonald settled in and faced the minimum until he turned the game over to the bullpen in the ninth. Monmouth stranded runners at third in the third and sixth innings, but finally broke through in the eights when pinch hitter
Campbell Quirk drew a bases loaded walk to score Dato.
