Monmouth rolled off five first half goals and held off a Cornell rally in the second half to post a 9-7 win over the Rams in Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference play.
Â
Amanda Green opened the Scots' scoring, taking a feed from
Mel Fairand for the game's first goal in the first two minutes of play.
Aspen Chadderdon added a goal in between a pair of
Kara-Jade Gordon scores and another Gordon goal with 3:35 left in the half gave the Scots plenty of cushion after the Rams netted their lone goal of the first half a minute after Gordon's final cage-finder of the half. The second half was a tale of runs when Cornell opened with three straight goals to cut the Monmouth lead to 5-4. Green countered, scoring the first of four straight Scots' goals as Monmouth built a 9-4 lead and withstood a three-goal Rams barrage in the final 3:30.
Kaitlin Korf netted 15 saves, nine in the second half as Monmouth moved to 3-2 on the season. Gordon's five goals led all scorers while
Angham Jaradat posted a four-assist night.
