OFFENSIVE SHOW GOES THE OTHER WAY IN ROAD LOSS

Monmouth led in most statistical categories, but fell short on the scoreboard in an 18-14 loss to Marian Saturday morning.

The teams combined for 73 shots and both goalkeepers posted 13 saves in the shootout. Kara-Jade Gordon netted the first goal of the game on her way to a team-high five goals as the Scots scored in the first minute. Marian countered 20 seconds later in a preview of the day's offense. The Sabres scored following a Laine Perez goal to knot the game at 2-2 at the 26:47 mark before Gordon and Kaelin Sommer netted back-to-back goals for a 4-2 Monmouth lead. The teams traded goals for much of the first half before Marian inched ahead 10-8 with three unanswered scores.

Trailing 10-9 at the half, Amanda Green netted her third goal of the game to knot the contest at 10-all. The Sabres countered with back-to-back goals three times in the final 23 minutes to begin to pull away, but Aspen Chadderdon scored two of her three goals in a five-minute span to keep the Scots within range at 16-13 with 11 minutes to play.  Marian added a pair of late insurance goals to ice the game, offsetting the Scots 19-15 draw control advantage and besting Marian in ground ball recoveries 19-14.

Monmouth begins a three-game home stand Wednesday when they host Cornell in a 7 p.m. matchup.
