Monmouth stayed in the hunt for a Midwest Conference Tournament berth with a 69-57 win over Knox, completing the season sweep of their arch rivals.
The Scots trailed just once in the game when the Prairie Fire took a 40-38 lead early in the second half. Monmouth answered when
Will Carius hit back-to-back buckets for four of his 17 points on his way to his sixth straight double-double by adding 17 rebounds.
After Knox had cut the Monmouth lead to one at 50-49 with 9:11 to play, the Scots rolled to a 19-3 run sparked by
D.J. Swift's 3-pointer, his lone bucket of the second half after tallying 13 in the first 20 minutes. Swift finished with 16 points, canning three of his six 3-point attempts. Monmouth allowed their season-low point total while forcing 14 Knox turnovers and controlling the boards 38-28.
Joining Carius and Swift in double figures were

Justin Batterton (10).
The Scots sit in fifth place in the league, one game behind Ripon for the last MWC Tournament berth. Monmouth travels to Ripon Saturday with a chance to move into the top four with three games to play. Tip off is set for 3 p.m.
