Only the weather came out on top Saturday afternoon when Monmouth and Cornell played to a scoreless double overtime tie. Scoreless through the first 43 minutes, a lightning delay and heavy rain prolonged the first half. Once play resumed, the teams took to the soggy pitch to finish a scoreless first half.Â
The scoreless theme continued in the second half, and both overtime periods. Monmouth ripped off 21 shots and Cornell nine, as the teams combined to put just seven shots on goal in the wet conditions. The Scots held the Rams without a shot in the OT periods while launching 10 shots, putting three on target.
The tie drops the Scots to sixth in the Midwest Conference ahead of a 3:30 contest Tuesday at Peacock Memorial Athletic Park against rival Knox.
