Monmouth outlasted Knox 3-2 Thursday night in a classic rivalry match taking a 3-2 win with a 16-14 victory in Set 5.

The Scots routed the Prairie Fire 25-17, 25-15 in Sets 1 and 2, but Knox took close victories in Sets 2 and 4, winning 25-23 and 25-22. Monmouth rallied from behind in the final set. Knox pulled out to an 11-8 lead and was nursing a 12-9 advantage when
Megan Gilstrap nailed her 10
th kill of the night to break the Fire serve and pull the Scots within two at 12-10. Monmouth climbed to a 15-14 lead when
Lauren Sperry drilled her 11
th and final kill of the night, breaking the Knox serve for the final time. The Scots took the match on the ensuing serve via a Knox attack error.

Monmouth got balanced scoring with three in double digit kills and another with nine. Sperry and
Ashley Farris nailed 11 kills each and Gilstrap and
Loryn Beal added 10 and 9, respectively.

The road win kept the Scots' chances of a Midwest Conference Tournament berth alive heading into Saturday's home finale with Grinnell. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
