Monmouth got their season off to a 2-0 start Saturday afternoon, downing Lincoln Christian 3-1 in the opening match of the Monmouth College Volleyball Invitational and taking the day's final game over Principia College 3-0.
The Scots edged Lincoln Christian 26-24 in Set 1, but dropped a 25-19 decision in the second set to knot the match at 1-1. Monmouth then rolled to 25-17, 25-11 wins in the next two sets, hitting at a .435 clip in the final set.
Ashley Farris nailed 10 kills in the contest, hitting .364.
Monmouth completed the perfect weekend blanking Principia and opening with a 25-18 first set win. The Panthers closed the gap in the next two sets, but fell 25-22 and 27-25. Senior
Ali Gustafson made a triumphant return after being sidelined with an injury last season, throwing down 11 kills against Principia.
The Scots travel to Eureka Tuesday for a 7 p.m. contest before traveling to Dubuque, Iowa, Friday and Saturday for the Loras Invitational.
