Monmouth couldn't overcome a 2-1 deficit coming out of doubles competition, dropping a 5-4 match at Lake Forest.
Joseph Shie and
Zach Harris teamed at No. 3 to take Monmouth's point in doubles. The tandem cruised to an 8-3 win while Paulo Pleigo and
Saxon Day narrowly lost a 8-5 match at No. 2. Playing at No. 1,
Landon Walker and
Dylan Wong fell 8-4.
Shie, Pliego and Harris each took straight sets wins at Nos. 3, 4 and 6 singles. The Scots nearly rallied for the team win, but fell in a pair of three-set singles matches. Wong at No. 2, took his opening set 7-5, but fell in Sets 2 and 3, 6-0, 6-1. Day also won his first set, but after teh 6-4 win, fell 6-4, 6-4 in the next two.
The Scots are scheduled to host Knox in Monmouth's home opener Monday at 4:30.
