Chasing a Midwest Conference tournament berth, Monmouth blanked Knox 9-0 Thursday evening at the Monmouth College Tennis Stadium.
The Scots dropped just five games in doubles as
Landon Walker and
Dylan Wong cruised to an 8-1 win at No. 1. The No. 2 team of
Paulo Pliego and
Saxon Day eased out an 8-2 win, the same score for
Alex Martin and
Zach Harris' win at No. 3.
Only
Paulo Pliego at No. 4 had a close match in singles. The senior edged his Knox opponent in Set 1, 7-5, the finished the match with a 6-3 win in the second set. Day and Harris each won 6-0, 6-0 at Nos. 5 and 6.
Walker had an easy time at No. 1 with a 6-2, 6-1 victory. Wong blanked his opponent in Set 1, 6-0 at No. 2, then held on for a 6-3 win in the second set.
Joseph Shie dropped just one game at No. 3 in a 6-1, 6-0 win.
Monmouth travels to Cornell Saturday and Grinnell Sunday for the final two matches of the regular season tied with Illinois College and St. Norbert for the final berth in next week's MWC Team Championships.
