Monmouth was just points away from reversing the score in last night's 6-3 loss at Illinois College.
The Scots came out of doubles trailing 3-0 after a pair of nine-point matches.
Landon Walker and
Dylan Wong battled at No. 1 before falling 9-8 after dropping a 10-8 tiebreaker. It was nearly as close at No. 3 where
Joseph Shie and
Alex Martin were edged 9-7.
Three convincing singles wins followed where Wong, Shie and Zach HArris rolled to straight set wins. Wong took his No. 2 opponent 6-0, 6-1 while Shie had little trouble at No. 3, winning 6-1, 6-0. Harris also had a easy time in a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 6. Playing at No. 5 for the first time in his career, Martin nearly pulled out a three-set win. The sophomore fell in the first set 6-2, but rallied back with a 6-2 second set win. IC won the tiebreaker 6-3.
Monmouth is scheduled to host Lawrence and St. Norbert Sunday beginning at noon.
