Monmouth's opening road trip didn't begin with a pair of walkovers, traveling to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to meet Coe and UW-Lacrosse on the opening weekend.
The Scots opened with a 9-0 loss to the host Rams and later were blanked by Eagles. Newcomer
Joseph Shie gave the Rams the lone 3-set match of the day. Playing at No. 6, Shie rolled to a 6-1 first set win, but fell 6-4 in the second set before eventually falling in a 10-6 tiebreaker.
Ronnie Griffin and
Landon Walker teamed at the No. 1 doubles position and turned in the Scots' best doubles matches for the opening weekend. The tandem dropped a pair of 8-5 decisions to both the Rams and Eagles.
Monmouth travels to Augustana next Saturday where they'll face the Vikings and Luther College.
