Box Score Monmouth's defense clamped down in the second quarter and the offences scored six unanswered goals in the second half to propel the Scots to a season-opening 11-9 win at Carroll.
 
Freshman Braden Cross netted the Scots' first goal just 22 seconds into the game, but the Pioneers countered with three unanswered goals. Monmouth's defense then held the Pios to just one goal the rest of the half to take a 5-4 lead into halftime when rookie Jeff Knapp scored his first of three goals late in the second period.
 
Carroll took a brief lead coming out in the third quarter with a pair of goals before Thomas Van Alstine began Monmouth's six-goal string. The sophomore's second of three goals in the game knotted the match at 6-6 with four minutes left in the third quarter and newcomer Mitch Perez  tallied his first of two scores in the final seconds of the third frame to give Monmouth the lead for good. Croy Seagren joined in the multiple goal game with Perez, Van Alstine and Knapp when he punched in Monmouth's final goal with five minutes left for an 11-6 lead, more than enough for goalkeeper Chase Cranford who made 11 saves in his collegiate debut in the cage.
 
The Scots return home to face Hope College in Monmouth's home opener on Sat., Mar. 3.
