Monmouth stayed atop the Midwest Conference with a perfect 3-0 league mark after cruising by Illinois College 84-69 Wednesday night in Jacksonville.
Â
Carley Turnbull pumped in 33 points – tying for the third-most in a single game in program history – and
Allie Meyers added her third straight double-double with a 13-point, 10-rebound night as the Scots led for the final 27 minutes of the game.
Â
The teams traded the lead 12 times in the first half before
Kaitlyn Osmulski came off the bench to score on a layup at the 7:03 mark of the second quarter to break a 25-all tie. Turnbull followed with three straight buckets and the Scots never looked back. Turnbull gave Monmouth their first double-digit lead of the night, sinking a pair of free throws just before the half to give the Scots a 49-39 lead.
Â
The Scots steadily pulled away in the second half, taking a 20-point lead with 3:09 left in the game when
Becca Gallis drained a 3-pointer on her way to a 21-point night.
Â
The win pushed Monmouth's season-opening win streak to eight and set up a first-place showdown next Wednesday when they host Lake Forest, also 3-0 in Midwest Conference play. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
