Monmouth's near-record season-opening win streak ended at nine Saturday with a 79-61 road loss to Augustana.
Â
Knotted at 14-all at the end of the first quarter, the Vikings took an early lead in the second 10 minutes, but could only muster a 28-24 lead by halftime. Augustana scored the first three points after the break, but a layup by
Allie Meyers and a jumper by
Carley Turnbull kept the Scots within single digits. A
Yvonne Ornelas 3-pointer at the 4:06 mark of the third period pulled Monmouth within seven at 40-33, but that would be as close as the Scots would come in the second half to slip to 9-1 on the season.
Â
Turnbull's 16 points led four Scots in double figures as Meyers chipped in a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Shayne Smith added 15 points and
Becca Gallis 14.
Â
Monmouth travels to Millikin on Sunday for a 3:00 p.m. matchup in Decatur.
