SECOND QUARTER WOES COSTLY IN ROAD LOSS

Box Score The Scots played nearly even with rival Knox for three quarters, but a second-quarter edge by the Prairie Fire burned the Scots in a 78-62 loss in Galesburg.

Keri Dodson's 3-pointer at the end of the first quarter gave the Scots a 17-14 lead, but the Fire ignited late in the second frame to take a 39-32 lead into the locker room. Knox never trailed in the second half, jumping out to a 51-37 lead before the Scots rallied on back-to-back buckets by Carley Turnbull to shave the deficit to seven at 51-44 with 3:23 left in the third.Knox eventually regained the double-digit lead and maintained the margin after canneind 9 of 11 shots in the thrid quarter and 7 of 12 in the fourth.

Turnbull connected on a double double of 13 points an d11 rebounds while Dodson pumped in 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Shayne Smith chipped in with a dozen points.

Monmouth returns home to host Beloit Saturday at 3 p.m. and Grinnell Tuesday at 7:30.
