WOMEN PUSH LEAGUE LEADERS TO THE BRINK

Box Score Monmouth refused to surrender after league-leading Ripon jumped ahead early to hang a 70-63 loss on the Scots at Glennie Gym Friday night.

The Scots spotted the Red Hawks an 8-0 lead at the start, but came back strong after a timeout, forcing the game to go down to the wire. Nursing a 29-23 halftime lead, the Red Hawks slowly began to increase the margin, but could not put the Scots away. Trailing by 13, 64-51 with 2:26 remaining in the game, the Scots' Becca Gallis drained a 3-pointer and then sank a pair of free throws on her way to a game-high 23 points thanks to a 10-for-10 night from the free throw line to begin the Monmouth run.  Maddie Dohleman then sank a bucket in the lane to pull Monmouth within six at 64-58 with 1:25 to play. Ripon then held off Monmouth, which hit 30-of-35 free throws, by sinking four free throws of their own in the final minute to hang on for the win.

Monmouth hits the road for Grinnell next Wednesday.
