Box Score Monmouth's front line threw down 36 kills over five sets, but the Scots came up just shy of a win in a 3-2 loss at Lincoln Christian University.

The teams traded sets for the night with the Red Lions taking the odd numbered sets and the Scots taking the evens. Monmouth dropped Sets 1 and 3 by identical 25-23 scores and won 25-17, 25-16 in Sets 2 and 4, respectively.

Monmouth jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the decisive fifth set, but LCU rallied to knot the score at 8-8 before pulling away down the stretch to take the set 15-10 and the match 3-2.

Setter Laura Dulee picked up the set assist on all but six of the Scots' 56 kills on the night. Becca Dabrowski and Ashley Farris tied for the team kills lead with 13 each while Lauren Sperry drove home 10 winners.

Monmouth begins league play Saturday with a 1 p.m. match at Beloit.
