Box Score Monmouth equaled their best defensive showing of the season and came within two goals of matching their best offensive output of the year in a narrow 12-7 loss to Carroll.
 
After the Pioneers tallied three early goals, Monmouth's defense clamped down and held Carroll scoreless until the 4:48 mark of the first half. Trailing 10-0 midway through the second half, Makayla Shaw put Monmouth on the board with her first of a career-high four goals.
 
Shaw added back-to-back goals for the Scots on a pair of free position shots and Tiana Cintron added a free position score to cut the deficit to 11-4 with less than four minutes left in the game. Rachael Leifheit tallied a goal at the 1:45 mark, just 30 seconds before Shaw notched her fourth goal. Cintron wrapped up the scoring with her second free position goal of the game with two seconds remaining.
 
Monmouth returns to Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference action Saturday with a 1 p.m. game at Wartburg.
