SEASON-BESTS LEAD SCOTS TO HOME FINALE VICTORY

Box Score Monmouth turned in their best defensive effort of the season and Taitum Priewe scored a career-high as the Fighting Scots won their home season finale with an 8-4 win over Fontbonne University.

The Scots had a bookend home campaign in their inaugural season, winning their home opener in February and notching Friday's win at Zorn Memorial Stadium. Priewe broke a scoreless tie with 3:31 left in the first quarter, but the Griffins answered less than a minute later. Priewe answered Fontbonne's tally with an assist from Scot Deunk – Monmouth's lone senior – with 41 seconds left in the opening frame to give Monmouth the lead for good. A Thomas Van Alstine goal – with a Chase Cranford assist – in the first three minutes of the second quarter gave the Scots a two-goal advantage.

A three-goal surge in the second half opened the Scots' lead to 7-3with less than 10 minutes in the game. The Scots' defense held tight, allowing just two shots on goal in the final quarter as Monmouth earned their second league win. Monmouth outshot Fontbonne 35-17 and held a narrow 8-7 edge in faceoffs.

Monmouth wraps up their first season next Saturday with a 1 p.m. contest at Benedictine.
