Box Score Monmouth scored first, but Dubuque scored last to down the Fighting Scots 7-5 Tuesday at April Zorn Memorial Stadium.
Â
Joe Incorvati was the first of five Scots to score and his goal just 90 seconds into the game was the start of a back-and-forth battle. Dubuque countered Incorvati's goal with a tally just minutes later and took the lead on a goal with 43 seconds left in the opening quarter.
Â
Thomas Van Alstine replicated Incorvati's opening goal, producing a goal in the first minute of the second quarter to knot the game at 2-2. The Spartan's rallied, posting two more goals – one on a man-up opportunity – to take a 4-2 halftime lead.
Â
The Scots came out strong in the third period when
Noah Barnard connected for his first collegiate goal and
Jerry Ivie netted the second of his career to tie the game at 4-4. With under five minutes left in the third
Taitum Priewe put the Scots ahead 5-4 with Monmouth's third goal of the period.
Â
Dubuque wasted little time knotting the game, collecting a goal in the first minute of the fourth quarter. Neither team was able to mount an offense for the next 10 minutes until the Spartans netted the eventual winning goal with 5:03 left.
Â
The teams played nearly even for the entire 60 minutes as Dubuque outshot Monmouth 33-32 and the Scots turned in 13 saves, one more than the Spartans.
Â
Monmouth will travel to the Milwaukee School of Engineering Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
