Box Score Croy Seagren notched three goals for Monmouth, but It took more than regulation for two evenly matched teams to decide the winner on St. Patrick's Day when the University of Northwestern clipped Monmouth College 6-5 in double-overtime.
 
The Scots scored first in the defensive battle when Joey Czerniak fed Seagren for the game's first goal at the 6:51 mark of the opening quarter. Northwestern knotted the game at 1-1 midway through the second quarter before Taitum Priewe and Chase Cranford netted goals for Monmouth just 30 seconds apart, giving the Scots a 3-1 halftime lead.
 
Scoring was at a premium following intermission when the Eagles slipped in a score in the first four minutes of the third quarter, then knotted the game and took a brief lead with three unanswered goals. The teams traded goals down the stretch, sending the game into overtime, Monmouth's second double overtime game in nine days.
 
Northwestern came out on top after a scoreless first overtime period, netting the game-winner with two minutes left in the second OT.
 
The Scots return to league play next Wednesday when they travel to Cornell for a 5 p.m. start.
