Box Score Monmouth turned in a dominant performance Saturday afternoon in a 72-39 win at Lawrence.
The Scots led from wire-to-wire, hitting more than half their shots in the opening frame to take an 18-11 lead as they never looked back. Diminutive guard
Yvonne Ornelas gave the Scots the early lead, taking the ball inside to score Monmouth's first points of the game and on her way to a game and  career high 23 points. A 3-pointer from
Jeni Crain midway through the first quarter gave the Scots an 11 point lead before
Maddie Dohleman's layup made it an 18-5 Monmouth advantage.
The Monmouth lead steadily grew as the Scots opened the second half with a 16-6 run to open the gap to 24 points at 51-27. Monmouth's defense then kicked in, holding the Vikings to just 28 percent shooting while the offense recorded a season-low eight turnovers.
The Scots travel to Illinois College Tuesday for a 5:30 p.m. meeting with the Lady Blues.
