SCOTS AND FIRE GO TO THE WIRE AT GLENNIE

Box Score Monmouth controlled the paint but Knox took the game, besting the Scots 69-63 Wednesday night at Glennie Gym.

Neither team could gain a lead of more than nine points as the teams stayed within striking distance for the full 40 minutes. The Scots entered halftime nursing a 33-29 lead and upped the margin to nine at 44-35 on Tia Robertson's layup with 4:47 left in the third quarter. Knox chipped away at the deficit and knotted the game at 48-all heading into the final period. A bucket in the lane by Carley Turnbull and a 3-pointer from Jeni Crain staked the Scots to a 53-48 lead in the first two minutes of the final frame, but the Prairie Fire countered and took the lead for good with 2:55 to play, hitting four of six free throws in the final 20 seconds to hang on for the win.

Crain led the Scots with 16 points while Turnbull and Robertson added 14 each as Monmouth outscored Knox 42-28 in the paint.

Monmouth resumes play next Thursday with a 6 p.m. game at Webster.
