Box Score The Fighting Scots came up just a point short in a game that saw 19 lead changes and 11 ties at Loras.
The Duhawks clipped the Scots 76-75 as neither team opened a lead of more than five points. Monmouth took their final lead with 2:29 left when Will Jones sank a pair of free throws to inch the Scots ahead 67-66. Loras responeded with a pair of throws on their ensuing possession before another Jones free throw knotted the game at 68-all with 1:33 remaining. After Loras scored on back-to-back layups, D.J. Swift drained a 3-pointer to cu the margin to oen with 26 seconds remaining. Loras then held off the Scots, sinking all four of their free throws in the final 21 seconds. Jones wrapped up the scoring with a 3-pointer on Monmouth's last possession for the final score.
Justin Aluya scored his second straight double-double with a 16-point, 12 rebound effort. Jones finished with 16 points, Justin Batterton 15 and Swift 13.
Monmouth gets back into Midwest Conference play with a Wednesday trip to Lake Forest. The Scots and Foresters are tied with St. Norbert for the top spot in the MWC with 4-0 league marks.
