WOMEN SHOOT LIGHTS-OUT IN WIN OVER HIGHLANDERS

Box Score Monmouth led for all but two minutes in a 77-42 win over MacMurray Sunday afternoon at Glennie Gym.

Led by freshmen Carley Turnbull and Shayne Smith who each pumped in 15 points, the Scots trailed only at the outset when the Highlanders hit an opening 3-pointer. Another freshman – Allie Meyers who pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds – scored the Scots' first bucket of the game and senior Keri Dodson nailed a pair of free throws to give the Scots the lead they would not surrender. Monmouth built a 49-18 halftime lead on 67 percent shooting, including draining 4-of-5 from beyond the arc.

The Scots grew the margin to as much as 51 points on an Izy Todd trey with 3:18 left in the third quarter as both teams began to clear their benches. Monmouth's bench pumped in 36 points while the Scots were outscoring the Highlanders 38-18 in the paint.

Yvonne Ornelas dialed in a dozen points, canning 4-of-6 3-pointers while Becca Gallis joined the double figure scorers with 10.

Monmouth opens their Midwest Conference schedule this coming weekend with a Friday-Saturday trip to Ripon and Beloit.
