Box Score Monmouth fought off a rough first half and matched highly-ranked UW-Whitewater shot-for-shot, but couldn't climb out of the first half hole in a 66-50 loss to the Warhawks.
After a cold-shooting first 20 minutes, the Scots trimmed their 31-15 halftime hole quickly at the start of the second half when Will Jones hit one free throw and Justin Aluya canned two, plus a jumper for four of his team-high 12 points to pull within 33-20.
The Scots twice climbed to within 11, one when D.J. Swift came off the bench to score two of his 10 points and again when another Aluya bucket with 10:15 left made it 42-31 Whitewater, but the Scots would get no closer in their first loss of the season.
Monmouth returns home to host Eureka and Westminster Saturday and Sunday in a pair of 1 p.m. contests.
