Box Score Monmouth picked up a crucial three points in hte Midwest Conference race on Sunday with a 2-1 overtime win at Lake Forest.
The Scots jumped out to an early lead when
Hannah Kugler fed
Alex Izquierdo for a goal before the match was two minutes old. Lake Forest answered in the 40th minute to send the teams to halftime tied at 1-1. After combining for 14 first half shots, neither team could mount many offensive threats in the second 45 minutes. As they had at the start of the match, the Scots attacked early netting the game-ending goal at the 93 minute mark on
Kacie Moran's unassisted goal - her first career goal.
The win pulled the Scots within four points of league leader St. Norbert, one back of Knox and three ahead of Grinnell in the battle the four MWC playoff berths.
Monmouth returns home Oct. 21 for their home season finale in an 11 a.m. matchup against Lawrence.
